Online Research Presentation
A research presentation by dance artist Laura Fisher, sharing insights into their pain informed approach to working with materials and technology in the recent development of a new performance work exploring heat generation and exchange between body and sheet metal. Laura reflects on their thermostatic disabled body as a visible site for pain and pleasure and Human X Material choreographic relations through the lens of the social model for disability.
About Laura Fisher:
Laura Fisher is a dance artist and producer based in Glasgow. Their practice is rooted in the expanded field of choreography, with a design focussed approach to creating and curating performance. Laura often works site specifically/responsively but the form of their work is varied and often multidisciplinary. She is currently researching choreographic space, audience embodiement and non human movement/relations within expanded dance. Within her practice, Laura is committed to unlearning ableist notions of dance and de-centring the physically elitist body from the core of dance practice.
Laura holds a BA (Hons) Contemporary Performance Practice from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and previously trained at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Currently, she is supported through Dance Base’s Dancers Emerging Bursary Scheme 20/21, mentored by Lucy Suggate. They are a recipient of Present Futures Associateship 2021 and are shortlisted for an Unlimited Emerging Artist Award 2021.
This programme is supported by Creative Scotland, The Work Room, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Goethe-Institut Glasgow, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Tramway.
